The southern Westchester County Town of Eastchester has enjoyed its share of accolades throughout history. It is the home of numerous golf champions, earning Eastchester the title of being the Cradle of American Golf. And even in pop culture, the town’s spectacular landscape and architecture have attracted the eye of Hollywood, with scenes from several films having been shot on location here.
 
Residents enjoy a plethora of public parks and sports facilities, fine dining, upscale shopping, and treasured historic sites. Eastchester includes the Lake Isle Estates and California Ridge sections of town, known for their elegant homes and private neighbourhood atmosphere.
 

History

In 1664, 10 families migrated from Fairfield, Connecticut, to settle the southern Westchester County Town of Eastchester. A deed was granted to the first settlers from Thomas Pell at the site where the home of resident Anne Hutchinson had stood several decades prior. At the outbreak of the American Revolution, Eastchester was primarily a farming community until the arrival of the railroad in the 1840s.
 
Eastchester, comprising approximately 5 square miles, is bordered on the north by Scarsdale, the south by Tuckahoe, to the east by New Rochelle, and to the west by Yonkers.
 

Transportation

Eastchester residents are blessed with an easy commute to New York City, which is approximately 30 minutes away via car or rail service (Scarsdale, Crestwood, and Tuckahoe stations). Four airports (LaGuardia, Westchester County, JFK International, and Newark Liberty International) are less than an hour away from the Town of Eastchester.
 

Recreation

  • Lake Isle Country Club: Facilities include a five-pool swimming complex, eight tennis courts, a par 70, 18-hole championship golf course, and more.
  • Leewood Private Golf Club: Offering an 18-hole course, of which baseball legend Babe Ruth was a member.
  • Town Hall Park: Where summer outdoor concerts and other recreational events take place throughout the year.
  • Eastchester Blue Devils: Athletic program for children participating in football, cheerleading, and lacrosse.

Historical Sites

Eastchester Historical Society: Formed in 1958 to further the understanding and appreciation for the history of Eastchester and the Villages of Tuckahoe and Bronxville, New York.

The town’s parks department oversees nine major park facilities, such as Rescigno Park, Memorial Park, Oakridge Park, Wilmont Park, and Haindl Field.
 
Eastchester Beautification Foundation: A nonprofit organization (ebfgrows.org) that works to advocate for green space, improve park facilities, and recommend improvements to signage and plantings throughout the community.
 

Arts & Culture

Eastchester Music Boosters: An all-volunteer group comprised of Eastchester School District parents and community members. The purpose of the EMB is to serve the needs of our student musicians and music faculty and to promote music education excellence throughout grades K-12.

The town’s assortment of restaurants offers an assortment of tasteful options such as rustic, wood-fired pizza, authentic Italian specialties, sushi, pub burgers, and deli delights, fresh-baked bagels, grilled sandwiches, and too many sweet treats to mention. And when it comes to shopping, Eastchester’s retail scene at Vernon Hills has it all.
